How did you make that?
One question, asked since 2014.
I came from textile art, where making meant understanding material, construction and form. But I was always more interested in the image than the object, and increasingly, those images were coming from somewhere else.
3D, game engines, virtual reality and eventually AI. New tools were changing not only how things were made, but what could be imagined in the first place.
I wanted to know what the people working with them were seeing. What happened when technology opened a door that hadn’t been there before. So I started asking.
Designers, artists and studios, in their own words.
